New Boiler for Flossmoor Village Hall

The village board voted unanimously in favor of rejecting the lowest bidder for a new boiler in favor of the runner-up due to minimum specification issues.

The Flossmoor Village Board voted to spend $103,900 on the purchase of a new boiler for Village Hall from the runner-up lowest bidder, Southwest Town Mechanical.

Assistant Public Works Director John Brunke, under the recommendation of Wm. J. Hoekstra Engineers, Inc. of Alsip, suggested awarding the bid to Southwest Town Mechanical rather than the lowest bidder, Pro-Temp of Illinois, Inc. (at $75,400), because the Pro-Temp unit did not meet minimum specifications.

The vast majority of the funds used to purchase the new boiler will be drawn from the $100,000 grant awarded to Flossmoor from the Cook County Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant Program. The remaining money will be subtracted from the current year's approved Capital Program budget of $85,000.

According to Brunke, Flossmoor's existing "AJAX" boiler is 32 years old and operates at only 70 percent efficiency. The new boiler, which is actually comprised of two smaller boilers working in tandem, achieves 94 percent efficiency.
