Person Struck, Killed By Metra Train In Homewood
Metra has shut down its entire Electric District line after a train struck a person near the Homewood station.

HOMEWOOD, IL - A person was fatally struck Tuesday morning by a Metra train on the rail's Electric District Line, stopping all trains on the line in both directions. The person was struck by Train #706 near the Homewood station, where officials say it was not scheduled to stop.
Information on the identity, age or gender of the victim was not immediately available. Metra spokesman Tom Miller confirmed the person struck has died.
Train #706 left the University Park station at 7:25 a.m., according to Miller. It struck the person shortly after 7:30 a.m. It was due to arrive at Millennium Station in Chicago at 8:19 a.m.

Passengers were believed to have still been on the train at 9 a.m., Miller said. The line is scheduled to make several stops in the southeast suburbs and South Side of Chicago.
"We are not operating in either direction," he added, noting that updates on when service will resume will be made on the Metra website.

Both Metra and Homewood police have responded to the scene to investigate.
