DEC. 30

Felony Retail Theft

Celeste Fulton, 38, of the 15900 block of Lathrop Avenue, Harvey, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft after she was accused of trying to steal almost $550 worth of jewelry and other items Dec. 30, from Kohl’s, 17602 Halsted St., according to Homewood police reports.

A store employee brought Fulton to security after observing her acting suspiciously via closed-circuit video, the report stated. In the office, the employee recovered the following items under Fulton’s purse:

  • four boxes of bracelets ($100 each)
  • two packages of earrings ($55 and $50)
  • nail polish ($8)
  • a T-shirt ($35)

The total value of the merchandise taken was $548.

Felony Retail Theft

Henry Raven, 42, of the 6600 block of South Peoria Street, Chicago, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft and battery after a Dec. 28 incident at Kohl’s, 17602 Halsted St., according to Homewood police reports.

Store security stopped Raven at about 6:13 p.m., as he tried to leave the store after opening and eating a $2.95 Godiva chocolate bar without paying for it, the report stated. Raven then pushed the employee and tried to flee after being asked to go to the security office, the report added.

Eventually, Raven was taken in to custody by police, and a computer check revealed he was on parole for a previous retail theft charge, the report stated.

DEC. 27

Retail Theft

Ursular Cooper, 20, of the 11700 block of Indiana Avenue, Chicago, and Stacie Smith, 20, of the 2900 block of Everett Street, Blue Island, were charged with retail theft after being accused of stealing merchandise Dec. 27, from Kohl’s, 17602 Halsted St., according to Homewood police reports.

DEC. 26

Felony Retail Theft

Shyila Thomas, 30, of the 14500 block of Normal Avenue, Riverdale, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft after being accused of taking almost $500 worth of merchandise Dec. 26, from Kohl’s, 17602 Halsted St., according to Homewood police reports.

A Kohl’s employee noticed Thomas go into a store fitting room at about 11:29 a.m., with bras, shirts, pants and gloves, the report stated. When Thomas exited the fitting room, she no longer hand the items, but her purse appeared full, the report added. Thomas later was stopped with the items, worth $490, as she was trying to leave the store without paying for them, the report stated.

DEC. 23

Retail Theft

Kevin Newsum, 39, of the 16600 block of Honore Street, Markham, was arrested and charged with retail theft, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana after being accused of stealing almost $360 worth of merchandise from a store Dec. 23, according to Homewood police reports.

Newsum was stopped at about 5:48 p.m., by an employee at Target, 17605 Halsted St., after the employee noticed Newsum acting suspiciously in the store, the report stated. Store items worth $359.97, 0.6 grams of a substance suspected to be heroin and a gram of a substance suspected to be marijuana later were found in Newsum’s possession, the report added.

DEC. 22

Retail Theft

Travis Council, 23, of the 1100 block of Grant Avenue, Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with retail theft after being accused of stealing a Nike hoodie and other clothing worth about $135 from a store Dec. 22, according to Homewood police reports.

A loss prevention officer for Kohl’s, 17620 Halsted St., stopped Council at about 5:15 p.m., after observing him go into a dressing room with multiple items and coming out without them, the report stated. In the security office, Council revealed he was wearing an upaid for Nike hoodie from the store under his clothes and had other merchandise in his pockets, the report added. The total amount of items was valued at $137, the report stated.

Council’s court date is Feb. 4.
