South Chicago Heights Police Officer Charged With Battery

The chair of the Prairie State College board of trustees is accused of striking an already wounded man in the arm at a bar.

CHICAGO, IL - An altercation at a bar on Kinzie Avenue in Chicago's River North neighborhood resulted in a battery charge for Jacqueline Agee, a police officer in south suburban South Chicago Heights. A charge that has since been dismissed. Agee, who is also the chair of the Prairie State College board of trustees, was accused of striking an already wounded man in the arm while off-duty one night in May at the Old Crow Smokehouse.

A Chicago police report obtained by Patch through a Freedom of Information Act request indicates police responded to the Old Crow at 11:22 pm. on May 18 when they found the victim, a 23-year-old man, bleeding through a cast he had on his arm due to a previous wound he sustained by a gunshot.

After Agee, whose listed address is in the 1200 block of West Sunnyside Avenue in Chicago Heights, allegedly admitted to police that she battered the victim, police filed an official charge of battery - make physical contact.

The police report indicates a witness also told police that Agee punched the man in the lower left arm two times, causing the wound from the previous injury to bleed.

South Chicago Heights Police Chief Bill Joyce was informed of the charge Agee sustained by Chicago police, according to the report. Joyce said Agee was placed on administrative leave while the South Chicago Heights Police Department conducted an investigation.

Agee was reinstated on July 1, a few days after Agee's case was dismissed as "Nolle Prosequi," loosely translated from Latin as "unwilling to pursue."

Joyce said Agee has an "unblemished disciplinary history" with the South Chicago Heights Police Department.

In addition to serving South Chicago Heights as a police officer, Agee is listed as the chair of the board of trustees at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights. The Prairie State website says Agee has been on the board since 2007, having been re-elected in 2013.

She's also a member of the South Suburban Bar Association and Illinois State Bar Association, having received a Juris Doctorate from The John Marshall Law School. The Law Offices of Dennis G. Gianopolus, P.C. lists her as an Attorney at Law with the firm.
