Short Race With Donuts And Beer Will Help The Arts In Homewood

Donuts, beer and coffee will help runners get through a two-block race in downtown Homewood.

HOMEWOOD, IL — The newly formed Homewood Arts Council is reaching out to underachievers everywhere to come out for a one-of-a-kind race that won't take much training to complete. The Homewood 0.3K run hopes to draw hundreds of ultra short-distance runners to help raise money for the effort to eventually have a performing arts center operating in Homewood.

The 0.3K distance, if you aren't a running aficionado, covers a two-block area. This race, set for 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, will run point-to-point from Martin Avenue and Hickory Road to Martin Avenue Square and cover about 365 yards. Interested participants should register here by Sept. 12.

"It's a run for the rest of us," said Suzy Moore, a member of the Homewood Arts Council and co-owner of the Upsa Daisy Boutique in downtown Homewood. "Everybody can do it. If you are an underachiever, come out for all the fun."

Helping runners complete the distance will be beer from Rabid Brewing at the start line, Krispy Kreme donuts and Starbucks coffee along the route at the midway point and a shot from Copper Still at the finish line. Plus, finishers will receive a T-shirt, 0.3K sticker and a medal to show off their accomplishment.

Moore said the Homewood Arts Council, which includes her Upsa Daisy co-owner Julie Lawton and Bottle & Bottega Homewood owner Greg Loudon, got the idea for the short run from a similar race that raised thousands for another cause in Texas.

The council wants to spearhead an idea that's been going around in Homewood for years. To have a physical center for the area's vocal and visual artists.

Proceeds from the 0.3K will go to both the Homewood Arts Council and Cancer Support Center. Sponsors of the race are sought at various levels from $100 to $1,000. Contact Julie Lawton at homewoodba@gmail.com for more information on sponsorship opportunities.
