Suburban 'Street Racers' Curbed in Homewood
The two allegedly sped off at 70 mph when a stoplight turned green.

HOMEWOOD, Il. — Two suburban 20-somethings who sped along Homewood streets at 70 mph were arrested Dec. 4 for street racing, according to police reports.
Carlos Alcantar, 24, of the 300 block of 8th Street, Chicago Heights, and Katherine Sandoval, 24, of the 16100 block of Emerald Avenue, Harvey, were arrested and charged for street racing, speeding more than 35 mph over the limit and possession of drug paraphernalia after the Dec. 4 incident, according to reports.
At about 12:53 a.m., Alcantar, driving a gray 2013 Honda Civic, and Sandoval, driving a blue 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse, were stopped at the intersection of Riegel Road and 183rd Street, the report stated. When the light turned green, both drivers sped off, traveling more than 70 mph, the report added.

Police eventually pulled over both drivers near the intersection of 183rd and Carpenter streets, the report stated. The drivers were then taken into custody, and a search of both vehicles uncovered a metal grinder, rolling papers, and other drug accessories, according to reports.
