"Susan B. Anthony" Visits the Homewood-Flossmoor Area League of Women Voters

The Homewood-Flossmoor Area LWV recently hosted its annual Pot Luck Supper and provided entertainment by Dawn Devries.

Thirty-five members and guests who attended the September Pot Luck Supper Meeting of the Homewood-Flossmoor League of Women Voters at the Marie Irwin Center in Homewood were treated to a special performance by Dawn Devries of Crete. Ms. Devries, wearing a period costume, addresssed the group as Susan B. Anthony, the famous suffragist. She entertained the audience with a performance written just for the H-F Area LWV in which she described Ms. Anthony’s early life as a Quaker and then her public life working for the temperance movement as well as for women’s rights, including the right to vote.

Following the performance, announcements were made by Co-President Syvia Tillman, who reminded those present that the League would be participating in National Voter Registration Day September 23 by registering voters from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Homewood Public Library. Voter Services Chair Sharon Cooper asked that those present volunteer to assist with this voter registration effort.

Members were also invited to participate in the LWVIL’s Charter School Update Study. These meetings, co-sponsored by the LWV Homewood-Flossmoor Area and LWV Park Forest Area, are being held through December. One does not have to be a member of League to participate in this study. For more information or to find out when the next meeting will take place, contact Syvia Tillman, 799-9721.
