Teen Charged With Murder In Death Of Alleged Accomplice

A 19-year-old Chicago Heights man faces a first degree murder charge after a robbery gone wrong over the weekend in Homewood.

HOMEWOOD, IL - Homewood police have charged a man in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred near 191st and Loomis over the weekend. Facing charges is 19-year-old Johnny Johnson, who is accused in the death of his alleged accomplice, Ramane Taylor of Chicago Heights.

Taylor, 17 was shot and killed by a person police say was the victim of an armed robbery attempt on Saturday. He and Johnson are reported by police to have lured the victim, an acquaintance, to the area of the shooting with the intent to rob the victim.

Police say Taylor was armed "and discharged a weapon" at the acquaintance and that Johnson was also carrying a weapon at the time. Police did not name Taylor in a news release. He was confirmed as the fatal victim of the shooting by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Taylor was a student at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, according to a letter sent out to district families.

Johnson, also of Chicago Heights, was set to appear on initial charges of first degree murder Tuesday at the Markham Courthouse.
