Thornton Historical Society Marker Dedication Sept. 28

VILLAGE OF THORNTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY PRESENTS ILLINOIS STATE HISTORICAL MARKER DEDICATION SEPT. 28, 2019

South Holland, IL– Please join the Village of Thornton Historical Society in the dedication of a State of Illinois Historical Marker honoring the Indigenous Peoples & the Hoxie Farm on September 28, 2019 at 10 a.m. The marker is located at Wampum Lake, Thorn Creek Division, (Entrance Thornton-Lansing Rd, west of IL-394), Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Thornton, IL. Speakers from the Forest Preserve District, Illinois State Historical Society, and Archaeologist Doug Jackson will be on hand, along with a display of artifacts. Artifacts may also be seen at the Thornton Public Library during the month of September.

The ceremony will last approximately ½ hour; feel free to bring a lawn chair. Please email thorntonilhs@gmail.com with questions. Our museum is located at 114 N. Hunter Street in Thornton and is open on Saturdays from 1:00-3:00 May thru October, and First and third Saturdays January – April from 1:00-3:00.
