In response to an increase in confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Cook County and in the State of Illinois, the Village of Flossmoor is implementing a series of precautionary actions.

Along with the Centers for Disease Control, Illinois Department of Public Health and Cook County Department of Public Health, the Village of Flossmoor is closely monitoring the spread of coronavirus across Illinois, specifically in Cook County. However, this is a rapidly changing situation, so awareness and precaution is critical.

In addition to participating in frequent briefings with municipal and state agencies, the Village is implementing system-wide contingency planning should the spread of the virus impact the Village’s workforce. All Village employees have been advised to practice good hygiene, clean work surfaces frequently, and take precautionary measures, like staying home when sick.

Among the Village’s largest concern is exposure to the virus for first responders. Because of the risk of exposure, the Village is asking residents to be sensitive to the health and safety of our employees. While first responders will continue to respond to 911 calls, they are making contingency plans with at-risk institutions and modifying procedures as appropriate.

As the Village prioritizes the health of all employees, the Village is delaying all non-emergency, in-house appointments, including meter replacements, courtesy leak checks and other in-home inspections until further notice.

At this time, Village Hall will remain open to the public, but officials ask that residents who are experiencing symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath) delay doing business with the Village until free from fever for more than 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medication. The Village is on the brink of one of its busiest times of year, vehicle sticker registration, and asks that residents be understanding when Village officials use medical gloves, hand sanitizer or medical masks when exchanging money and paperwork with residents. This is a safety precaution to keep Village employees safe and healthy as the coronavirus situation continues to change.

This is a developing situation in which Village officials will continue to update residents on and make adjustments as needed.
