Vote to Win South Suburban Humane Society a $25,000 'Cat Room Makeover'
Vote for volunteer Sandy Barnett in Purina's 'Cat Chow Challenge.'

Sandy Barnett is more than just a face at South Suburban Humane Society: she’s a hero.
Barnett’s efforts working with adoptable cats have connected hundreds of felines with new families, and the cats seem to know she’s their biggest fan.
“When the door opens to one of the cat rooms and the residents see Sandy, they flock to her,” wrote shelter staff, of Barnett.

Barnett’s efforts have earned her a nomination in Purina’s “Cat Chow: Building Better Lives” contest, which asks supporters to vote for their favorite volunteer (and shelter) in the chase for a $25,000 cat room makeover for the shelter. Hers is the only entry representing Illinois.
As of Thursday, Barnett is in the top 10. But the cats’ responses to her could have told you she’s the best.

“They know that in her pockets are hidden tasty treats, in her bag are soothing brushes, and in her lap is warmth and love,” staff wrote.
Barnett works with the cats each day, carefully noting their likes and dislikes, and ”personality traits.”
“She utilizes these notes to help potential adopters find the perfect match and to track her socialization efforts of frightened felines,” her entry reads. “She gleefully shares the pages that show each cat’s name with ’ADOPTED!’ written next to them and now boasts hundreds of names that she has helped match with families. Sandy’s volunteer efforts have directly saved hundreds of cats’ lives!”
