Have a talk with your kids and agree that they can do anything with the things in their room, as long as when they are done, their room remains picked up. Let them decide what’s important to them, what they’re ready to let go of, and how they want their clothes, books and other belongings stored.

You will achieve three things: 1. Your kids will clean their room. 2. You will have some peace while they are doing it.
3. It will show them that you trust them to make good decisions.
