Woman in Fight Tells Cops Being a Student Should Keep Her Out of Jail

"I can't be arrested. I'm going to school," says woman after being taken in to custody by Flossmoor police for battery.

Battery

Markyshiara Poole, 23, of the 3600 block of Cherry Hill Drive, was arrested and charged with battery after a fight Nov. 7, with a 21-year-old Hazel Crest woman, according to Flossmoor police reports.

A witness who was driving the two women in his truck at around 3 a.m. claimed Poole and the victim began to argue in the car, the report stated. As the witness parked the car in the 2600 block of Flossmoor Road, Poole repeatedly began punching the victim in the face. The witness told officers he stopped the fight by pulling Poole away from the victim and out of the truck, the report stated.

The victim, who was sitting in the truck and crying when police arrived, had fresh blood dripping from her nose, mouth and lips, according to the officers at the scene. The woman also had a swollen lip, bruising on her face and a dark, red spot around her left, eye, the report stated. The truck’s interior also had fresh blood spatter, the report added.

An ambulance was called for the victim, and she was taken to South Suburban Hospital and treated for her injuries, the report stated.

Poole told officers that she didn’t believe she did anything wrong and claimed her mother was a lawyer and that she knew her rights, the report stated.

When officers arrested her, Poole said, ”I can’t be arrested. I’m going to school, but that bitch (the victim) ain’t doing (expletive) with her life,” according to the report.

At the station, Poole admitted to fighting and said she wanted to file a complaint against the victim, the report stated. Poole had a scratch on her left cheek and a three-nail scratch on the right side of her neck, the report added.

Poole was released on a $1,500 bond, and her court date is Dec. 9.

Copper Piping Taken

An employee of a real estate service agency reported the theft of copper piping between Oct. 30 and Nov. 7, from an unoccupied house in the block of 1300 Amery Court, according to Flossmoor police reports.

The employee told police that the water in the house had been turned off and pipes from the basement had been removed, the report stated. An officer investigating the scene noticed areas in the basement ceiling where copper piping had been cut out and taken, as well as pieces of pipe scattered on the floor, the report added.
