Huntley Police Department's Heroes

Department holds ceremony recognizing officers and their efforts.

The frantic phone call came from the man’s wife. He was having a heart attack. Huntley police Sgt. Scott Sullivan and Officer Justin Harper were the first responders.

Sullivan and Harper used an automated external defibrillator and performed CPR, saving the man’s life.

On Thursday night, the two were recognized for their heroism.

It was an evening of recognition of Huntley police officers, held during National Police Week, for their work and dedication to the community.

Perkins said he was proud to lead a department full of well trained officers.

“I can’t be more proud of them,” he told the audience.

Here's a list of all the awards given to officers provided by the police department:

  • Carl J. Tomaso Fitness Award presented to Officer Cory Coss and Officer Megan Racila.  The award is presented to the male and female officer who received the highest score during our POWER fitness test.
  • Huntley Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for contributing over 750 volunteer hours to enhance the police service to the citizens of the Village of Huntley.
  • Huntley C.E.R.T. (Citizen Emergency Response Team) received a Certificate of Recognition for their dedication to take time to prepare to assist the Village of Huntley in response to a disaster and other emergencies.
  • Sgt. Scott Sullivan and Sgt. Kevin Hillner received a Certificate of Appreciation for their dedicated service on the Huntley Police Pension Board.  Hillner has served 10 years on the board and Sullivan has served two years.
  • Annual service awards were issued to Officer Theo Kallantzes for 10 years of service, Officer Brad Kummer three years of service, and Officer Rich Miller three years of service. 
  • Village of Huntley Weight Loss Challenge winner.  Officer Brad Kummer.
  • A Letter of Commendation was given to Detective Kevin Keane for the work he did gathering intelligence information and working with other agencies and contributing to the successful apprehension of three suspects who were alleged to have burglarized Julie's Nail Salon.
  • Letter of Commendation presented to Officer Brett Kinney and Officer Charles McGrath for locating a female subject who had climbed onto the roof of her house after taking prescription medication and purposefully trying to roll off of the roof of the house.  Officers restrained her and safely got her off the roof.
  • Letter of Commendation presented to Officer Patrick Callahan for responding to a motor vehicle crash where the driver was pinned under the vehicle.  Officer Callahan pushed up on the luggage rack and was able to reduce the weight of the vehicle so the victim could breathe easier.  He held the vehicle in that position until an unidentified motorists helped him lift it up further so the victim could slide out from under the vehicle.
  • Letter of Commendation presented to Sgt. Amy Williams, Officer Patrick Callahan, Officer James Daley and Officer Richard Miller for the apprehension of three suspects in the Julie's Nail Salon burglaries.
