New Church Website Allows Better Communication

After a year of planning, the St. Mary Catholic Church has completed its new website. 

“We needed to update it and make it more user-friendly,” Monsignor Steve Knox at St. Mary Catholic Church said. “I got a committee together, with people who are savvy with things like that, and we talked about what we wanted to do while we looked at a number of websites to get ideas.”

With 5,000 families of parishioners, the main goal of the new website was to make a more effective ministry, and a communication tool with the parish, Knox said.

“A lot of people get their info there [on the website],” Knox said. “If someone is looking for a parish it is a good way for them to get a feel for St. Mary’s, and to get the information they are looking for.”

The site’s home page will be updated frequently with current events happening in the church.

“We want to keep it fresh so people have an interest in it and so they know what is going on,” Knox said. “The parish is always growing and evolving, and we want the site to do that.”

The new website also includes more educational tools, such as links to information pages for people who have questions about the faith.

In the church’s newsletter, Pope Benedict XVI is quoted as he “calls the Internet an invaluable tool in the new evangelizing." Knox agreed, and said that using the technology of the age, such as the church’s website, to communicate the gospel message is important.

“The world is a lot different today than it was 50 years ago,” Knox said. “There are many advances in technology. We should use that technology in order to communicate the gospel message and evangelize.”
