Twenty-five years ago, on September 23, 2001, thirteen people gathered in the multipurpose room of Chesek School in Huntley and trusted God with something new. Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church didn't have a building, but Pastor Ken McKnight and 13 worshipers had a strong willingness to show up to worship and serve.
“This year, on that same date of Wednesday, September 23, we are inviting every member and family of Shepherd of the Prairie to mark our 25th anniversary the way our story began,” says Senior Pastor Mark Boster, “not with a program, but with action. Instead of just looking back, we want to LIVE it forward with a day of special service.” Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church is committed to LIVE their faith through:
L - Lend a Hand. Help a neighbor with a task they've been putting off — yard work, a repair, a ride somewhere they need to go. I - Invest in Someone. Spend real time with someone who could use it: a call, a visit, a meal shared, a listening ear. V - Volunteer Somewhere. Give an hour or an afternoon to a local shelter, food pantry, school, or community organization (a group from SOTP will be going to Feed My Starving Children that day) E - Extend God's Love. However you serve that day, let it be an act of grace — done quietly, done for someone else's sake, in the name of Christ.
Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church members are asked to share their LIVE service stories from that day with a photo, which they can upload to SOTP’s website. “As worshipers gather at services on Sunday, September 27,” adds Pastor Boster, “a slide show will show what 25 years of faithfulness looks like from thirteen people to now an active congregation, who are still choosing to LIVE for Christ.”
