No 'Serious' Crime On Campus During Violent Chicago Weekend

University of Chicago police reported no serious incidents on a weekend that saw a high number of shootings and murders citywide.

CHICAGO, IL - A violent weekend in Chicago seemed to spare the neighborhood within the geographical boundaries of the University of Chicago Police Department. While numerous shootings, some fatal, taking place in the city from Friday night through Monday morning, the UCPD reported "no serious incidents" reported to them during the same time frame.

The UCPD reports serious incidents as homicides, criminal sexual assaults, robberies, aggravated batteries and residential burglaries that are classified as home invasions. The police department operates in the area between 37th and 64th streets, Cottage Grove Avenue to Lake Shore Drive. Much of this area is off-campus.

From 12:01 a.m. Friday, August 3 until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, August 5, the Chicago police list of major incident reports include dozens of reports, nearly all of them shooting incidents. From Saturday at 10 a.m. until Sunday at 10 a.m., police totaled 34 shooting victims and five murders.
