The same package also seeks money for Jacksonville’s wastewater plant, Greene County Rural Water District, and a Sangamon County road widening, but Jerseyville’s project directly targets pedestrian and traffic safety close to home.

Jerseyville Man Charged With Harassing Sheriff's Deputy After Prior Offenses Against Officers (riverbender.com subscription) — A 75-year-old Jerseyville resident has been charged with felony harassment of a witness after an alleged incident involving a Jersey County Sheriff’s Deputy. The case centers on behavior reported outside the Sheriff’s Office and adds to the individual’s prior history with law enforcement.

Illinois Route 96 stretch to honor fallen Calhoun County soldier (myjournalcourier.com) — A Jerseyville native and Calhoun High graduate, Army Specialist Anthony “Tony” Gilman, will be honored with a memorial designation on Illinois Route 96 from Mozier to the Pike County line. Lawmakers are advancing a resolution to name the stretch after Gilman, the first American soldier to die in NATO’s Kosovo peacekeeping mission.
