$100K Pay For 74 School Employees In Joliet District 204

In November, Joliet Patch filed a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain the latest salary and benefits at Joliet District 204.

JOLIET, IL — In recent years, the taxpayers of Joliet Township High School District 204 funded one of the highest administrative salary and benefits packages in suburban Chicago, but that's no longer the case now that Superintendent Cheryl McCarthy has retired. Prior to her summer departure, McCarthy made a $293,297 salary, plus her fringe benefits package worth $60,264.

McCarthy's successor, Mike Hanson, is drawing a salary of $210,000. Although the Joliet Township High School Board may have trimmed the new superintendent's salary, several other high paid administrators were given several thousand dollars in additional raises. For instance, Joliet West High School Principal Teresa Gibson, who already made $184,810, was given a raise this school year of $7,393, bringing her current pay to $192,203.

In terms of base salary, Hanson's assistant superintendent of business services, Ilandus Hampton, makes more than his new boss. Hampton makes $216,070 after receiving $14,362 in salary increases since the 2017-2018 school year when he worked under McCarthy.
