2 Joliet Cocaine Dealers Being Sought: Complaint

Bench warrants have been issued this week for their arrests.

JOLIET, IL - Two men who live on Joliet's west side are now being sought by Joliet Police in connection with allegations that they distributed cocaine on multiple occasions last year. Bench warrants were issued this week for the arrest and capture of Salvador Rangel, 42, of the 1200 block of Wilcox Street, and Gerardo Zavala, 34, of the 400 block of Madison Street.

The codefendants are charged with one Class X felony crime of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and one Class 1 felony charge of the same offense.

Rangel and Zavala "knowingly and unlawfully delivered 15 grams or more but less than 100 grams of a substance containing cocaine, a controlled substance," the complaint reads.

One of the offenses happened on March 8, 2018 and the second offense occurred a week later, on March 15, 2018, the charges state.

In unrelated case, Zavala was in Will County's Jail last July 11 and Aug. 28 after being arrested by Joliet Police on one felony charge of manufacturing/delivery of cocaine. The date of that offense was listed as July 11. That case remains pending at the Will County Courthouse.

In that case, Zavala is being represented by attorney Neil Patel of the Chuck Bretz Law Firm. The Joliet man's bail from last summer was set at $2.5 million, which Zavala managed to post the necessary 10 percent to secure his release from custody, jail logs indicate.

As for Rangel, his criminal history in Will County traces back to the 1990s when he was charged with offenses including battery, armed violence and indecent conduct, court files show.
