2 Stabbed at Speedway Gas Station, Joliet Police Solve Crime: Cops

JOLIET, IL — A 40-year-old man was arrested by Joliet police on Thursday night following a stabbing of two people that happened behind the Speedway Gas Station building on West Jefferson Street.

Joliet police announced that Jonathan Banks is now in the Will County Jail facing two counts of aggravated battery. Jail records had Banks as a Crest Hill resident from Elsie Avenue.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the stabbing happened around 9:35 p.m.

  • Joliet police found a 27-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to the abdomen and shoulders as well as a 36-year-old man with a stab wound to the lower right leg. Both victims were taken to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department.
  • The injuries to both of the victims were considered to be non-life threatening.
  • "It is believed that Banks approached the victims in the parking lot behind the Speedway and an argument took place at which time Banks produced a knife and stabbed both victims," English said.
  • Officers spotted Banks walking near the area of North Larkin Avenue and Oneida Street. Banks was covered in blood, and he had minor lacerations to his hands.
  • Banks was also taken to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department for treatment of the injuries to his hands.
  • Officers recovered the knife that was used in the attack nearby. When Banks was released from the hospital, he was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, arriving at 3:49 a.m.

This marks the fourth incarceration at the Will County Jail for Banks since 2017, according to the jail logs. Joliet police had him in the Will County from last September until early December 2022 on domestic battery and criminal trespass charges.
