25 New Tasers Coming To Joliet Police Department

Joliet's City Council authorized the expenditure at last week's meeting.

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet City Council has approved spending an estimated $52,470 to allow the Joliet Police Department to buy 25 new TASER stun guns. The expense was discussed at last week's meeting and includes video cameras, holsters and a long warranty. The TASERS are being manufactured by Axon Enterprise which used to be known as TASER International, according to city records.

Joliet's Police Department has used TASERS since around 2010, the city council memo states. "Due to the TASERS five-year shelf life, the Police Department has begun replacing the first TASERS issued and, at the same time, upgrade to the more efficient Model Class III, X2," the memo informs Joliet's City Council.

Joliet police officers deploy their stun guns from time to time as an alternative to using deadly force against combative suspects. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)
