2nd Man Charged in 2012 Murder of Joliet Gym Owner: Police
Forensic evidence and witness interviews linked Kenneth Edwards to last year's shooting death of Sean McGinn outside Team Joliet KO Zone, Lt. Brian Dupuis said.
A Joliet man linked to the 2012 murder of a downtown boxing gym owner turned himself into Joliet police Tuesday after a warrant for his arrest was issued, Lt. Brian Dupuis said.
Police had been waiting for the results of undisclosed forensic evidence before seeking the arrest of Kenneth G. Edwards, 45, of 114 Zurich, who was charged Oct. 4 with three counts of first-degree murder and one of armed robbery in connection with the shooting death of Sean McGinn, 39, of Lockport.
It's believed Jermain Bennett, who co-owned Team Joliet KO Zone with McGinn, worked with Edwards to set up his business partner in a drug deal/robbery on Aug. 11, 2012, that went awry and ended in McGinn's death.

McGinn was shot twice in the area behind the 218 E. Cass St. gym, and Bennett allegedly removed a large amount of money from McGinn's vehicle, police said at the time.
Earlier this year, investigators sought the public's help in tracking down information on the second suspect, and Dupuis said they were able to make a case against Edwards based on witness interviews and the forensic evidence, which he would not discuss.
At the time of his death, friends and family described McGinn as a devoted father, friend and coach who was committed to getting kids off the street by giving them a different outlet at the gym. A sign at his club read, "Drop the Guns, Put on the Gloves."
Edwards is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $5 million bond. Bennett has been held there since his arrest on $2 million bond.
