Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English issued a press release outlining the events that led to the capture of the three people:
At 5:28 p.m., officers responded to a residence on the city's west side in the 500 block of Douglas Street for a residential burglary. A 16-year-old boy was at the home, and as the resident was in his room, he overheard noise coming from downstairs.

The resident came downstairs and determined that Juanay Smith, Jason T. July, and Jason N. July, had entered the house through an unlocked back door. The three suspects accused the 16-year-old of stealing two gaming consoles from their residence in the 600 block of Clement Street.
At this time, the suspects grabbed nearby Xbox and PlayStation gaming consoles and two controllers and left the residence.
Officers located Smith, Jason N. July, and Jason T. July outside their residence in the 600 block of Clement Street. Smith indicated to Joliet police that they did in fact enter the residence on Douglas Street and took the gaming items after believing the juvenile may be involved in the theft of their gaming consoles from Clement Street.
All three were taken into custody without incident and the gaming items that were taken were returned to their owner on Douglas Street. Officers learned that Jason T. and Jason N. July are father and son, English noted.
