3-Year-Old Boy Gives Away Wanted Drug Suspect Hiding From Cops: Police

The child's mother told the cops the druggie wasn't there but the kid said otherwise, according to police.

A wanted man hiding out in a drug and needle-strewn apartment was caught after a 3-year-old boy gave him up to the cops, police said.

The boy’s mother tried lying to officers about 21-year-old Cody Kern being inside the North Center Street apartment Tuesday night but the child interrupted to let them know, “Yeah, Cody’s here,” and then pointed to the room where the Midlothian man was hiding, police said.

After he was betrayed by the boy, Kern dashed into a different room, police said. The officers then reportedly got permission from the landlord to go inside the apartment and found uncapped syringes, several packages of heroin, baggies and burnt spoons. They also tracked down Kern, finding him hiding in a crawlspace leading from a bedroom closet, police said. There was a mattress covering the opening to the crawlspace in which Kern was lurking.

In addition to the warrant, Kern was charged with possession of a controlled substance and endangering the life or health of a child. The 3-year-old’s mother, Alexandria Miller, 20, of Midlothian, was jailed on the same charges, as was 30-year-old Anthony Pajer of Joliet.

Another woman, Nancy Anderson, 29, of Rockdale, was charged only with endangering the life or health of a child.

The boy’s father was contacted and came out from Minooka to pick him up, police said. An officer also reportedly alerted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
