5 Charges Filed In Deadly Shooting Near Cathedral
Joliet Police swarmed the scene Friday afternoon and made a quick arrest of the suspected killer.

JOLIET, IL —The Will County State's Attorney's Office of James Glasgow has filed five criminal charges against Matthew Rutledge, a 37-year-old man accused of killing a 38-year-old Joliet man on the sidewalk and wounding a woman during Friday afternoon's broad daylight shooting in the city's historic Cathedral Area.
Prosecutors filed three counts of first-degree murder against Rutledge for the Dec. 20 shooting Quentin Woods "without lawful justification," the criminal complaint reads.
The fourth charge against Rutledge is for attempted murder. The complaint states that he shot Tiffany Williams with the intent of killing her. The fifth charge indicates Rutledge caused bodily harm to Williams "in that he discharged a firearm ... that he shot Tiffany Williams with a firearm."

Authorities have told Patch that Williams was shot once and she was in fair condition at the hospital in the aftermath of the shooting. Joliet Fire Department paramedics rushed her by ambulance to Amita Health Saint Joseph Medical Center.
Woods, the other shooting victim, was found dead at the scene.

The jail listed Rutledge's address as being near the scene of the crime on Sherwood Place. Several people were outside in the neighborhood around the time of the homicide.
The Joliet Police Department booked Rutledge into the Will County Jail during the overnight hours of Saturday, Dec. 21. His bail was set at $2.5 million. He remains unable to post 10 percent, which is $250,000.
