Alleged Evergreen Ripper Found Victim on Internet Escort Site, Met With Her For Sex: Prosecutor

Surveillance video shows the man beating and stabbing the woman after engaging in a sex act, a prosecutor said.

The Joliet man charged with butchering a young woman in an Evergreen Terrace laundry room told police he contacted her through a website for escorts and killed her when she wanted more money for sex, a prosecutor said.

Drumaine McKinley, 35, told police he spent Tuesday night out drinking with his wife and another couple when he strayed off to a casino and decided to look for a prostitute on the website Backpage, Assistant State’s Attorney Peter Wilkes said during McKinley’s bond hearing Thursday afternoon.

McKinley found 20-year-old Joslyn Woods of Joliet, Wilkes said, and they met in the laundry room of a building in the Evergreen Terrace apartment complex.

Surveillance video showed McKinley and Woods walk into the laundry room about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Wilkes said, and also captured McKinley pulling his pants down and Woods kneeling in front of him.

The video went on to show McKinley battering Woods while her hands were raised to protect herself, “pounding and pushing (her) into the wall,” Wilkes said, then stabbing her repeatedly with a knife.
Evergreen resident Stephanie Gaines discovered Woods’ body about 15 minutes later and her friend Toinette Platt called the cops. Officers arrived to find a gory scene in the laundry room, with Woods facedown in a pool of blood and bloody footprints leading away from it, Wilkes said. A knife was on the floor near Woods’ corpse.

The cops tracked McKinley down to a wooded area behind his East Washington Street house. An ex-convict still on parole for gun and drug convictions, he explained to detectives that he and Woods were having sex when she suddenly stopped and told him she wanted more money, Wilkes said. He also claimed she was the one who tried to stab him but he blocked the blade, Wilkes said, despite video evidence to the contrary.

After he was taken into custody, McKinley told officers he “didn’t mean to hurt her that badly and that he’s going to be gone for the rest of his life,” said Wilkes, who noted that McKinley called the police soon after the killing and told them his “prostitute girlfriend” had been stabbed and he tried to stop the bleeding. McKinley hung up without providing any further information, Wilkes said.

Judge Roger Rickmon set Mckinley’s bond at $5 million. McKinley, appearing at the hearing via closed-circuit video broadcast from the county jail, said he didn’t have that kind of money. He also asked if anyone from his family was in the courtroom.

A woman in the gallery shouted out, “F—k you, bitch!” and McKinley replied, “Well that answers my question.”

The woman left in the crowd of Woods’ friends and family but Judge Rickmon had deputies bring her back to the courtroom. He told the woman, who said she was Woods’ cousin Marissa Woods, that her “behavior in this courtroom is unacceptable” and warned he could lock her up for six months.

The judge told Marissa Woods and another woman returned to the courtroom by deputies that they could go free if they were able to walk out quietly, which they did.
