JOLIET, IL — Joliet police and paramedics responded to a serious crash at the traffic light at Black and Essington roads late Tuesday afternoon. According to Joliet Fire Battalion Chief Joe Vish, at 4:18 p.m., the Joliet Fire Department responded to the busy intersection to find a four-vehicle wreck.
One vehicle had rolled over numerous times and came to rest on its roof, with fire in the engine compartment.
An off-duty Joliet firefighter from Station 5 saw the crash and pulled the female driver from the vehicle, Vish noted.
Engine 5 arrived shortly after to extinguish the fire. A second vehicle required extrication by Joliet Fire Department crews to remove the driver. In total, three patients were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center, Vish pointed out.
Vish said he did not have any updates as far as the medical conditions for the three people taken to St. Joe's.
Joliet Police had the intersection closed for accident reconstruction for a few hours after the incident.
