1. 2 members of Joliet Police Department on leave for alleged misuse of Flock camera technology (abc7chicago.com) — Two Joliet Police Department employees, a sworn officer and a dispatcher, are on paid leave while the Joliet Inspector General and Illinois State Police investigate alleged misuse of Flock license plate reader technology. Officials say they are reviewing department policies around the surveillance system, but have not released further details about what the employees are accused of doing.
2. Joliet honors Neighborhood Hero Award recipients for 'taking pride' in their community (shawlocal.com) — Joliet has named 18 homes across the city as 2026 Neighborhood Hero Award winners for standout landscaping, maintenance, and curb appeal, with recipients honored at the Sept. 1 City Council meeting. Properties from streets like Blackwater Drive, Herkimer Street, Belmont Avenue, and Wheeler Avenue received commemorative yard signs recognizing how their upkeep helps beautify Joliet's neighborhoods.
3. Will County property transfers: Aug. 24-30 (shawlocal.com) — Recent Will County property records show dozens of Joliet homes changing hands, including a 1,476-square-foot house on Belmont Avenue that set the week's median sale at $265,000. From Garden Court and Caddy Lane to Hickory Street and Wheeler Avenue, the listings give Joliet residents a detailed snapshot of current neighborhood sale prices and housing trends.
4. Soccer Preview: Points Have Been Scarce for Joliet Catholic Entering Marian Catholic (maxpreps.com) — Joliet Catholic's boys soccer team hosts Marian Catholic on Tuesday in its first conference test, hoping to spark an offense that hasn't scored more than one goal in five straight games. Coming off a lopsided loss to Plainfield East, the Hilltoppers enter the home match still seeking their first win of the season against a Marian squad also struggling on the road.
5. The Trump administration halted a Great Lakes project. Then Whitmer called Trump (jhnewsandguide.com) — Work on the Brandon Road Interbasin Project near Joliet, designed to block invasive carp from reaching Lake Michigan, was suddenly restarted after Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer personally appealed to President Trump. The move ends a mysterious Trump administration stop-work order and lets engineers resume installing protective technologies in the Des Plaines River just outside Joliet.
