St. Joe's Hospital Staff Threatened With Death By Homeless Patient Who Became Disruptive: Joliet Police

JOLIET, IL — It does not happen often, but Joliet police officers responded to the St. Joe's Medical Center on Friday for a major disruption, one that resulted in the arrest of Jason Chance, a 53-year-old homeless man, now facing three counts of aggravated assault.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 8:40 a.m., the officers responded to St Joseph Medical Center for a disturbance. English said that Jason Chance, 53, homeless, was a patient at the hospital and had reportedly become disruptive while receiving medical treatment.

The hospital security responded and attempted to intervene.

"During the encounter, Chance allegedly made threatening statements indicating that he would obtain a knife and stab them. No weapon was displayed or located during the incident," English announced.

He said that Chance had made similar statements regarding stabbing security personnel while speaking with 911 dispatchers. Chance was placed into custody without incident and charged with three counts of aggravated assault. He refused further medical assistance and was transported to the Joliet Police Department where he was processed and released on a notice to appear in court.
