Overnight Home Invasion In Joliet: 'Thank You To Minooka Police Department For Their Vital Assistance'

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced that it gained vital assistance from the nearby Minooka Police Department in order to capture home invasion defendant Carey Almond during the overnight hours of Wednesday.

In total, the 37-year-old Almond was charged with home invasion, domestic battery and criminal damage to property.

The incident began on Ruth Fitzgerald Drive — only two blocks away from where 26-year-old James Adams and 62-year-old Robin Turner of 2405 Ruth Fitzgerald Drive are accused of cutting up and dismembering the body of DaleWayne Turner — earlier this summer back in June.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 2:59 a.m. on Wednesday, the overnight shift officers responded to a residence in the 2600 block of Ruth Fitzgerald Drive for a report of home invasion. He said that Almond, of Plainfield, had allegedly entered the residence without permission while the occupants were sleeping and entered the bedroom of a woman with whom he had previously been in a dating relationship and shares a child.

Officers were advised that Almond did not reside at the residence and did not have permission to enter.

"It is alleged that Almond struck the victim multiple times in the face with a closed fist and bit her on the right forearm during a physical struggle," English announced.

The altercation continued from the bedroom to the stairway before Almond exited the residence through the rear of the home. After exiting, Almond allegedly punched and broke a window before fleeing the area, English pointed out.

Officers searched the surrounding area with assistance from a Minooka Police Department K9 but were initially unable to locate Almond. A short time later, officers located Almond riding a bicycle near Caton Farm Road and Drauden Road and took him into custody without incident.

While at the Joliet Police Department, Almond complained of an injury to his hand that he sustained during the incident. He was transported by the Joliet Fire Department to St. Joseph
Medical Center for treatment, the police reported.

Following his release from the hospital, Almond was returned to the Joliet Police Department for processing and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

"Thank you to the Minooka Police Department for their vital assistance in this case," English proclaimed.

As for Almond, he makes his first Will County Courthouse appearance in 202 at 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
