Reckless Driver Who Killed Joliet Substitute Teacher In 2018 Gets Arrested For Aggravated DUI This Week

JOLIET, IL — Ever since Demetrius Greene finished serving his prison sentence for his reckless homicide crime that killed a well-liked Joliet District 86 substitute schoolteacher in 2018, Greene has returned to Joliet, and his arrests continue to rack up and become more dangerous for the community.

This week, according to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 9:47 p.m. on Monday, the officers responded to the area of West Jefferson Street and South Larkin Avenue for a report of a reckless driver.

Responding officers were advised that the suspect vehicle was a Dodge Grand Caravan. Upon arrival, an officer located the Dodge traveling westbound on West Jefferson Street and
saw the vehicle being driven erratically. An officer conducted a traffic stop near West Jefferson Street and Essington Road and identified the driver as Demetrius Greene, 42, of Joliet.

During the traffic stop, the officer observed signs of possible alcohol impairment, English announced.

Greene agreed to participate in field sobriety tests, which were conducted at the scene. Following the investigation, Greene was taken into custody. Officers also determined that Greene's driver's license was revoked at the time of the traffic stop.

Greene was charged with Aggravated DUI and DUI. He was also cited for improper turn, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving while license revoked, and two counts of failure to signal.

Greene was processed at the Joliet Police Department and released on a Notice to Appear in court. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Last year, Joliet Patch produced a crime story revealing that Greene, a notorious Joliet criminal who ended the life of 56-year-old Martyn Flowers, a long-time substitute teacher for Joliet Public School District 86, had finished serving his prison sentence and was back causing problems around Joliet, arrest reports show.

Joliet Patch has produced a number of crime stories on Greene over the years including one in 2019 when Greene, then 34, was given an eight-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to reckless homicide and failure to report an accident involving injury or death.

Around dinner time, on Jan. 10, 2018, Greene blew a red light at the busy intersection of Black Road and Larkin Avenue as he was driving the wrong way against traffic. Greene caused a six-vehicle pileup and the death of one of the motorists he struck was Flowers.

Last November, Joliet police arrested Greene at the Stang Kelly Wine & Liquors store, 712 West Jefferson Street, on charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing a police officer.

According to English, at 10:59 a.m. on a Sunday, the officers responded to Stang Kelly Liquor for a disturbance. At the scene, the officers learned that Greene entered the store and was placing a bottle of alcohol in his pants.

English noted that Greene was stopped by an employee who requested the bottle be given back. Greene then became upset and eventually gave the bottle back. Before leaving the store, Greene allegedly exposed his genitalia to the male employee, the arrest report showed.
