JOLIET, IL — Demetrius Greene, a 37-year-old Joliet man who spent time in prison for killing a Joliet Public School District 86 employee during a wrong-way crash in January 2018, was arrested early Sunday morning in connection with a shooting incident, according to Joliet police.
Greene was booked into the Will County Jail on Sunday morning on charges of possessing a gun by a convicted felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, having no FOID, unlawful possession of ammunition and a parole violation warrant.
Joliet police learned of gunshots being fired around 12:25 a.m. Sunday near Chase and Henderson Avenues, which is near Greene's house in the 700 block of Chase Avenue. Joliet officers saw Greene walking in the area and "officers observed a handle of a handgun protruding from Greene’s waistband," according to police reports.

Around dinner time, on Jan. 10, 2018, Greene blew a red light at the busy intersection of Black Road and Larkin Avenue as he was driving the wrong way against traffic. Greene caused a six-vehicle pileup and the death of one of the motorists he struck, long-time Joliet Public School District 86 substitute teacher Martyn Flowers, 56.
Joliet Patch reported in 2019 that Greene was now serving an eight-year prison sentence after recently pleading guilty to charges of reckless homicide and failure to report an accident involving injury or death. To read that article, go here.
