Angel Contreras' 3rd Offense DUI Trial Won't Take Place
Angel Contreras provided Joliet police with an Illinois State Identification card and stated his license was revoked, court records show.

JOLIET, IL — There will be no criminal trial this month at Will County's Courthouse for Angel Contreras, the Joliet Township Supervisor, who was booked into Will County's Jail on Father's Day weekend in 2022, in connection with a third DUI offense and driving without a license.
Court records indicate his trial, set to take place this month, has been removed from the calendar of Will County Judge Carmen Goodman. Now, the calendar for Courtroom 503 indicates Contreras won't be back in court until Jan. 12.
Contreras' case has been continued for a plea, court files show. On Tuesday, Joliet Patch called downtown Joliet lawyer Scott Delaney, and he declined to comment on his client's case.

At 2:42 a.m., Contreras was under the influence of alcohol while driving his 2007 Honda Ridgeline on Western Avenue near Wilcox Street, the complaint noted. Contreras has a prior DUI conviction from Feb. 28, 2008 in Mahaska County, Iowa and a DUI conviction from Aug. 15, 2015 in Elkhart County, Indiana, with "said violation being a third violation."
According to court records, when the Joliet officer turned on his squad car's sirens and flashing lights, Contreras "struck and drove up on the curb with the vehicle's front passenger tire."
Contreras was asked for his driver's license, but he does not have one.
"Angel Contreras provided an Illinois State Identification card and stated that his driver's license was revoked," court records show.
According to Joliet police, Contreras' eyes were bloodshot and glassy, his movements slow and deliberate. The Joliet Township Supervisor was lethargic, and his speech was slurred, the forfeiture pointed out. The Joliet police officer ran Contreras' name through his registration database and learned Contreras had a revoked driver's license in Illinois.
"Contreras stated he had four drinks at the end of the night. Officer Macejak offered Contreras to perform ... sobriety testing, which Angel Contreras refused," a forfeiture complaint noted. Contreras was handcuffed and brought to the Joliet police station, where "Angel Contreras refused to provide a breath sample after the 20-minute observation period. Angel Contreras was then transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility," court records state.
Will County prosecutors also filed a forfeiture complaint asking that a judge declare the 2007 Honda Ridgeline a forfeited police asset, that way, it can be sold at public auction, destroyed or given to another police agency in Illinois.
