Angry Pathways Student Attacks Joliet Detective: Police
The 17-year-old Joliet boy was arrested at the Pathways Alternative School at 110 Collins St.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet police detective was treated and released from Silver Cross Hospital after being attacked by a 17-year-old student at Joliet's Pathways Alternate School, according to police. The boy was later taken into custody and charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, criminal trespass to a safe school zone and resisting arrest.
Monday's incident happened around 10:30 a.m. at Pathways, 110 Collins St.
"It was determined the juvenile grew angry after being disciplined for school conduct," Joliet police announced. "A parent of the juvenile was contacted and consented to the juvenile walking home from the school. The juvenile refused to leave the school premises despite being requested to leave numerous times."

At the school, the 17-year-old boy threatened to harm the Joliet police detective and when the detective ordered the boy to leave the school, he refused.
A struggle ensued as the detective tried to put the boy under arrest.

"During the struggle, the juvenile punched and kicked the detective multiple times," Joliet police said. "The juvenile was then taken into custody. While in custody, the juvenile threatened further physical harm to the detective and other responding officers."
At the Joliet police station, the 17-year-old Pathways student complained of injuries during his struggle with police so the boy was taken to St. Joe's hospital before being admitted to the River Valley Juvenile Justice Center.
