Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English indicated the following events led Long's capture over the weekend:

  • At 12:45 p.m., Officers attempted to stop a Kia Forte near Elgin Avenue and Harwood Street after spotting Long in the car. Officers already knew that Long faced a Grundy County arrest warrant.
  • When the car was stopped, Long ran from it and he ignored the officers’ commands to stop running and surrender.
  • Officers found Long in the back yard of a house in the 400 block of Mohawk Avenue. Still, Long continued to ignore the commands to submit to an arrest.
  • That's when the Joliet police deployed a taser to subdue Long.
  • The outstanding warrant was for missing court in Grundy County.
