JOLIET, IL — Three Joliet fire stations battled a three-story apartment building fire on the city's near west side early Wednesday morning. The fire displaced a total of eight residents, according to Deputy Fire Chief Greg Blaskey. Fortunately, all the tenants made it out safely and nobody was injured as a result of the fire, he added.

The fire at 22 North Cagwin Avenue was reported around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. The three-story brick building is near the intersection of West Jefferson Street. The Joliet Fire Department sent engines from stations 1, 5 and 6 to extinguish the blaze. Blaskey said there was heavy fire damage coming from an enclosed porch area of the apartment.

The Joliet Fire Department had the fire under control around 12:15 a.m. At this stage, the fire's cause remains under investigation, he said.

The Red Cross was notified and is assisting the tenants who are now without a place to live.

"At this point, as I understand it, it's uninhabitable," Blaskey told Joliet Patch on Wednesday morning.
