Bat With Rabies Found In Joliet On This Street
It was the first rabid bat that has been captured this season, according to Will County's Health Department.

JOLIET, IL - The Will County Health Department announced that a rabid bat was found this week in the city of Joliet marking the first confirmed discovery of the season. The bat was in an apartment in the 300 block of Joliet's Stone Street on Memorial Day. An apartment dweller caught the bat and called animal control.
"Will County Animal Control took possession of the bat for testing, and it tested positive for rabies on Wednesday, May 30," the health department announced.
Three people in the household were exposed to the bat. They have been provided with information on rabies treatment, the press statement advised.

According to the Will County Health Department, "bats need to be reported immediately to Will County Animal Control at 815-462-5633. The Will County Animal Control program maintains a 24-hour answering and emergency pick-up service for confined stray animals, injured animals, and stray biters. Joliet Township residents can also call the Joliet Township Animal Control Center at 815-725-0333."
Lastly, health officials remind people to make sure you have all of your pets currently vaccinated against rabies.
