Bomb Threat On Black Road At Joliet Library Branch: Police

The Joliet Public Library building was immediately evacuated, Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English notified Patch.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced that someone committed a crime by making a false bomb threat targeting the Joliet Public Library's Black Road branch on Thursday afternoon. The incident prompted authorities to evacuate both branches of the library, the one on Black Road and the one downtown.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English:

At 2:22 p.m., officers responded to the west branch of the Joliet Public Library at 3655 Black Road) for a report of a bomb threat to the library that had been received online.

The building was immediately evacuated. The additional Joliet Library Public Library location at 150 North Ottawa Street was also evacuated.

Nearby Troy Craughwell Elementary School was placed on a soft lockdown as a precautionary measure.

"Following an extensive search of both libraries, no evidence of any sort of a threat was located," English noted.

Both library locations were allowed to reopen, and the lockdown at Troy Craughwell Elementary School was lifted at approximately 3:15 p.m.

"This unsubstantiated threat remains under active investigation," English announced.
