Brooks Barber Shop Owner Facing Cocaine Charges Freed From Jail
Special prosecutor Dave Neal asked Will County Judge Dave Carlson to lower the bail for Terrance Brooks, who was jailed in January.

JOLIET, IL — After spending nearly five months in the Will County Jail, the owner of Brooks Barber Shop regained his freedom last week after his bail was lowered from $500,000 to $50,000 in connection with charges of felony cocaine dealing.
The charges against Joliet resident Terrance Brooks, now 42, are being prosecuted by Dave Neal of the State's Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor's Office. Will County State's Attorney Jim Glasgow recused himself from handling the Brooks case because Glasgow works with the defendant's father, Pastor Herb Brooks, who serves on the Will County Board and is a fellow Democrat.
In January, Joliet Patch reported that the Joliet Police Department conducted a drug raid at the Brooks Barber Shop in the 2200 block of West Jefferson Street that resulted in the seizure of $48,854, plus more than 10 flat screen televisions, Coach purses, Milwaukee power saws and other merchandise, documents filed at the Will County Courthouse show.

Brooks was arrested on Jan. 13 and charged with three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, cocaine. Brooks also has pending criminal charges at the Will County Courthouse dating back to 2016 and 2017, last week's court filing showed.
Last Wednesday, Will County Judge Dave Carlson signed off on the agreement worked out by the lawyers to substantially reduce Brooks' bail from $500,000 to $50,000.

"If and when bond is posted, defendant shall stay confined within his personal residence, with the exception of medical treatment and appearing in court," Carlson's order reads.
After the hearing, Brooks' spouse posted the necessary 10 percent bond, $5,000, to get her husband out of jail, court documents show.
Brooks' next court date was set for Sept. 17 in Courtroom 405.
