Cocaine Dealer Runs From Car, Joliet Police Make Arrest: Cops

Joliet police say they saw the driver of the Mitsubishi, Jerrell Amos, age 31, running near Ward Avenue and Garnsey Avenue.

JOLIET, IL — A 31-year-old cocaine dealing suspect was arrested by Joliet police on several criminal charges after he tried to run from his car during a recent traffic stop, arrest reports for Jerrell Amos show.

Amos, who comes from the 100 block of Wallace Street, is now in the Will County Jail where he's charged with: two counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, three counts of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Obstructing a Peace Officer and Failure to Report Damage to Property.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the arrest of Amos happened Saturday during the overnight hours.

According to English:

  • At 3:39 a.m., officers tried to stop the Mitsubishi Galant near Ohio Street and State Street for a registration violation. The driver fled at a high rate of speed. Officers later saw the Mitsubishi driver running near Ward Avenue and Garnsey Avenue.
  • Officers ran after the male and caught up to him in the 700 block of Garnsey Avenue and placed him into custody.
  • Following this weekend's arrest of Amos, Joliet police learned that Amos also faced arrest warrants for the delivery of cocaine in June of 2018 and for May 17, 2021, when officers tried to pull over Amos as he was driving a Lincoln MKZ near Elwood Avenue and Parks Avenue for an equipment violation. In that case, Amos refused to stop and officers pursued the car to the 700 block of Henderson Avenue, where Amos’ vehicle struck a fence and Amos ran away.
