$175,800 Bicentennial Park Fountain Repair Approved By Council

The fountain had been in need of major repairs.

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet City Council on Tuesday night approved a $175,800 contract with R.W. Clark Construction to reconstruct the Bicentennial Park Fountain, otherwise known as Frannie's Fountain. This week, the council reviewed drawings showing how the fountain will look once the work is finished. At Monday night's pre-council meeting, Joliet community activist Bob Hernandez urged the council to approve the expense because Bicentennial Park serves a great need for the community. The fountain has been in need of repairs in recent years.

"You would be helping hundreds and hundreds of poor families that gather at Bicentennial Park," Hernandez said Monday night. "It would be great if you would do that for our less fortunate in the community."

During Monday night's pre-council meeting, councilwoman Bettye Gavin asked city officials about the depth of water that will be in the new-and-improved city fountain along Jefferson Street.

"There will be very little water ... so no more bathing in the fountain," responded Kendall Jackson, director of community development.

"No more bathing in the fountain. Great," Gavin responded. "That answers all my questions."
