Coroner Laurie Summers announced on Facebook that the Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task force is investigating the incident.

Joliet Patch wrote about Fanniel in 2020 during a crime article headlined,"April Drive-By, Oct. Joliet Homicide, January SUV Forfeiture." The article noted that Joliet police have investigated Terrell Fanniel in connection with the Oct. 17, 2019, slaying of convicted Joliet cocaine dealer Dearis Evans in the 800 block of Cora Street, new court documents show.

Joliet Patch has reached out to the Crest Hill police chief for an update on the homicide investigation. So far, he has not returned phone calls and messages.
