David Masciotra Book Release - Barack Obama Invisible Man
Saturday, July 22nd 6pm at the Joliet Area Historical Museum

David Masciotra is the author of Barack Obama: Invisible Man, Mellencamp: American Troubadour, Working On a Dream: The Progressive Political Vision of Bruce Springsteen, and Metallica. He is currently at work on a collection of personal essays, and is a weekend cultural columnist with Salon. He teaches English at the University of St. Francis and Indiana University Northwest.
Barack Obama: Invisible Man is a provocative and penetrating cultural and literary look at the life and political career of President Barack Obama. Inspired by Ralph Ellison's masterpiece, Invisible Man, Barack Obama: Invisible Man contends that Obama's historic status as first black president rendered the real man and leader invisible to much of America. The genuine figure of elegance and hope presented an opportunity for American growth, but due to the loaded reality of race, that opportunity was lost. Barack Obama: Invisible Man is about Barack Obama, race, and American culture. It is a unique blend unlike any other interpretation of the Obama presidency.
Admission: $7 for General Public / Museum Members Free / with Cash Bar. After Party to follow at Chicago Street Pub, music by Kev Wright and John Condron
