DCFS Shooting: Crest Hill's Rickey Evans Faces 4 More Charges

On May 21, someone fired numerous gunshots into the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services offices at 1619 W. Jefferson St.

JOLIET, IL — Five months after someone walked up to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services office building on Jefferson Street — in the middle of the night — and shot the building up with bullets, Joliet police have charged Rickey Darnell Evans with the violent crime.

Evans now faces one count of intimidation, two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one count of criminal damage to property.

The crime happened on May 21 at 1619 West Jefferson St.

On May 24 Joliet Patch published a story interviewing John Bays, who is the owner of the Jefferson Centre plaza, and Bays said it's his understanding that DCFS and Joliet police had identified a suspect.

"They feel it's a disgruntled customer," Bays said. "They're pretty confident they know who it is."

Evans, Will County Jail logs show, has remained an inmate at 95 S. Chicago St. since July 16. His bail is listed at $225,000. Evans resides at the apartments units in the 1800 block of Arbor Lane in Crest Hill.

In July, Joliet Patch reported that the 32-year-old Crest Hill man was arrested over the weekend in connection with an ordeal at the Will County Courthouse that resulted in the building being evacuated for everyone's safety.

For the courthouse crime, Evans is facing felony disorderly conduct charges.
