Door-To-Door And Intersection Solicitation Resumes
The City of Joliet will allow door-to-door and intersection/street solicitation to resume effective immediately.
The City of Joliet will allow door-to-door and intersection/street solicitation to resume effective immediately. Both forms of solicitation were previously suspended due to COVID-19. Anyone seeking to solicit via intersection/street or door-to-door must complete an application and meet all outlined requirements and application fees.
Intersection solicitation is managed by the Business Services office. This type of solicitation is limited to not-for-profit organizations that meet the necessary requirements as outlined on the application. Once approved, organizations may only solicit once per year. Dates for intersection solicitation are restricted to May through October and are typically selected in February of that year. Due to the pandemic, dates for intersection solicitation are currently available in July and August.

The door-to-door solicitation process is intended for businesses only. Those wishing to perform door-to-door solicitation must complete an application, have a valid state-ID and $30 application fee. Applications can be found at: https://www.joliet.gov/departments/police-home/resources/documents or at either Joliet Police Department location (Main Station, 150 W. Washington St. or West Substation, 7196 W Caton Farm Rd.) Once approved the permit is good for until the end of the calendar year.

As a precaution, residents should not let any solicitors into their home, give out personal information and request to see a copy of the permit issued by the City. If a solicitor refuses to leave call 911.
The City of Joliet municipal code Article III-Division 2-Chapter 22-38 reads in part: In addition, no person shall call upon the occupants of any residence for the purpose of soliciting or canvassing, or for the purpose of making an appointment to solicit or canvass, if there is prominently posted and displayed at the entrance to such residence a notice, measuring at least four (4) inches by two (2) inches, containing a statement such as "Solicitors Prohibited," "No Soliciting," "No Canvassing" or the like.
