JOLIET, IL — While most Joliet residents were getting a good night's sleep, 23-year-old Wheeler Avenue resident Dangelo Gutierrez was driving with his lights off in the 600 block of Clement Street and shooting up several parked cars early Thursday morning, Joliet police indicated.

Before sunrise, officers captured Gutierrez at his house in the 600 block of Wheeler Avenue; he had cocaine, marijuana and a loaded 9 mm gun, police spokesman Dwayne English revealed in Thursday's press release announcing Gutierrez's arrest.

At 7:55 a.m. Gutierrez was booked into the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, reckless discharge of a gun, unlawful ammunition possession and having no FOID.

While responding to the shooting, officers on the overnight shift saw Gutierrez's Dodge Charger speeding southbound on Center Street from Plainfield Road with his lights off, English noted.

The drive-by shooting suspect was going too fast for officers to chase after him, police reports indicate. Back in the 600 block of Clement, officers found several spent shell casings near the rear of a house. Two unoccupied vehicles, a Cadillac CTS and a Chevrolet Impala, were hit with the bullets.

No injuries were reported, police announced.

Later, Joliet police found Gutierrez's Dodge Charger parked near Wheeler and Croghan Street and he left the gun on his passenger seat, police reports show.

Joliet police found Gutierrez at his house on Wheeler and he "indicated that the handgun was his," police announced.

"While officers were speaking to Gutierrez, he dropped suspected cocaine from his pocket. Gutierrez was placed into custody without incident," English stated.

Officers say they recovered the loaded 9 mm handgun from Gutierrez's Dodge Charger, as well as his marijuana.

"Officers located more suspected cannabis after searching Gutierrez," English added.

Gutierrez is scheduled to have his bail hearing on Friday afternoon at the Will County Courthouse.

This marks the second shooting in the 600 block of Clement Street in less than 48 hours.

On Tuesday night, around 10:40 p.m., 18-year-old Xavier Garcia shot himself and a 17-year-old acquaintance in the stomach, Joliet police indicated. Garcia came to the house with a .40 caliber handgun. While Garcia was handling the gun in a bedroom, it discharged a round, striking him in the left hand and the juvenile in the stomach, police reports show.

On Wednesday evening, Garcia was released from the Will County Jail after posting 10 percent of his $25,000 bail.
