Drunk Lexus Driver Flees Joliet Police, Captured In Channahon: JPD

Channahon's Police Department notified Joliet police they located Luciano Strange's Lexus at the Thornton's gas station on Route 6.

JOLIET, IL — A 20-year-old Channahon resident, Luciano Strange, was arrested by Joliet police on felony DUI charges over the weekend after Strange floored the gas on his Lexus and sped away from Joliet police along West Jefferson Street, arrest reports show.

Eventually, with the help of Channahon's Police Department, Strange was captured at Channahon's Thorntons gas station near the Interstate 55 exit. Joliet police took him away in handcuffs on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, DUI and DUI over .08.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the incident leading to Strange's arrest happened around 3:15 a.m. on Saturday.

According to English:

  • An officer tried to make a traffic stop on a Lexus ES350 near West Jefferson Street and Stryker Avenue for speeding. The driver refused to stop and drove away at a high rate of speed westbound on West Jefferson Street. The pursuit was terminated out of a concern for safety as the Lexus sped southbound on South Larkin Avenue at a high rate of speed.
  • A short time later, the Channahon Police Department found the vehicle and its driver at Thorntons gas station, 24144 West Eames Street. Joliet officers responded to the gas station and identified Strange as the driver of the Lexus.
  • Strange exhibited behaviors consistent with alcohol impairment, and he was placed into custody. Strange was taken to the Joliet Police Department, where he agreed to perform field sobriety tests.
  • Upon search of the vehicle, officers recovered cannabis and an open bottle of alcohol. Strange was later released by Joliet police and given a notice to appear in court.
