House For Vagrants On Hickory St. Faces Nuisance Vote

Joliet's Neighborhood Services Division is recommending the vacant house at 219 North Hickory Street gets condemned.

JOLIET, IL — A two-story yellow, wood-frame house at 219 North Hickory Street has remained empty since November 2019. At Tuesday night's Joliet City Council meeting, elected officials will vote whether to make the house on Hickory a public nuisance.

The house is about a half block south of the Western Grocery Store located at the corner of Hickory and Western Avenue.

"An emergency water turn off was performed in December 2019 due to flooding from missing pipes," city of Joliet records show. "The home has large amounts of water damage. The city has had to service and board up the property, and the Police Department has dealt with numerous vagrants at the property."
