Binny's Beverage Depot Really Opening Joliet Store

What do you think of this location? Isn't it great?

JOLIET, IL - The Twitter page for Binny's Beverage Depot proclaims "if you can't find it at Binny's, it's probably not worth drinking." Well, for Joliet-area residents, your beer and liquor selection opportunities are about to change dramatically. Binny's will be opening a location in the city of Joliet, Joliet Patch has learned. The mega-popular liquor outlet filled out the paperwork on Friday with Joliet's City Hall to obtain a building permit. Binny's plans to open its new location near the Louis Joliet Mall.

Binny's will occupy the vacant hhgregg store at 3150 Tonti Drive, city of Joliet officials informed Joliet Patch. Back in April 2017, the store was the site of an afternoon fire. Patch reported the fire started in some bushes in the back of the store. At the time, all hhgregg stores were already in the process of liquidating their businesses.

"It's sort of funny," Joliet City Economic Development Director Steve Jones told Joliet Patch. "We've had a lot of requests for Binny's from residents in terms of just trying to be able to bring that kind of amenity to our community and then Olive Garden. I don't know which is number one or which is number two with regard to resident favorites. But at least we've got Binny's now heading here.

"It's just a great store. Obviously, we've got other great stores in town, but it gives something a little more unique, and it's in a location where it clearly won't only be serving Joliet but parts of Plainfield, so it's always great if you can attract people from a number of towns to your retail."

Patch asked Jones to shed more light on the new location for Binny's.

"It will be off of Plainfield Road where the hhgregg facility was; so between the (Louis Joliet) Mall property and Plainfield Road," he explained. "They applied for their building permits this week, I haven't seen the plans so I don't know the level of remodeling or interior. Obviously, once the building permit starts to get processed, we'll know a little more about their time frame, when their contractor expects to be done, when they think that first opening will be, but trust me, they will do a big splash when opening day comes."

Joliet Patch caught up with Mayor Bob O'Dekirk over the weekend at the city's community volunteer cleanup days at the Old Joliet Prison. We asked him about the news of Binny's expanding to Joliet.

"It's something that people have been asking for a while," O'Dekirk remarked. "We thought maybe a year ago that they were going to come. It was sort of a misfire, so it's good to see them coming. I think they are going to do real well in that location. I do. I think people in Joliet are going to be happy it."

Until now, the closest Binny's to Joliet exists along Route 59, on the northern edge of Plainfield, on the way toward the Fox Valley Mall. There is also another Binny's in Naperville near Ogden Avenue and Royal St. George Drive and one in Bolingbrook at The Promenade.
